4-Way Stop
Imagine with me.
You pull up to the four way stop of an a small neighborhood street—the kind that still has big yards and old trees. As you approach, so does an old 80’s truck across from you, and a dusty white sedan to the left. You clearly have the right-away, stopping first, but because you aren’t positive anybody knows what a right-away means anymore, you hesitate for a second. The other car decides to do a roll-through and pulls out into the intersection just as your car lurches past the street corner. In that moment, two things are true—you know are right, and you know it would be ridiculous for you to claim it.
Continuing on your path would mean crashing into the car to make a point, and spending hours on the subsequent hassle for a rule intended to keep that very thing from happening. Just let them go and move on with your day. Sometimes being technically right isn’t worth the cost.
