the universe didn’t know of love,

the first and unproved state of matter,

until it escaped the first black hole

into time and light,

hit earth, killed most of the dinosaurs,

and brought human dust to water.

things happened, and here we are,

bristling with war machines

pointing in every direction, tipped

with the hard-won mechanics of the sun.
